The Doors of Stone is the third and final installment in Rothfuss’ Kingkiller Chronicles trilogy. Rothfuss subsequently delivered on his promise, giving readers a tantalizing taste of what is to come. His fans responded swiftly, reaching the fundraising goal within hours. Last December, Rothfuss offered to read the prologue of his highly anticipated novel, The Doors of Stone, and share a full chapter from the book if his fans could raise a certain amount of money for Worldbuilders. Rothfuss is no stranger to philanthropy in addition to his work with Worldbuilders, he has donated over $500,000 to various charitable causes.
Later, he persuaded the editor to use this title. Despite the editor’s objections, the author stated in a 2017 FAQ that the title of the third and final book would remain Doors of Stone due to popular consensus. Rothfuss announced his intention for the Kingkiller Trilogy even before the first novel, The Name of the Wind, was published. In the meantime, fans can reread The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man’s Fear to prepare for the final instalment in the Kingkiller Chronicles.
There’s no set release date for The Doors of Stone yet, but Rothfuss says that he’s working hard on finishing the book. If you’re wondering when the chapter will be published, Rothfuss says that he plans on releasing it “soon.” Once Rothfuss amassed $300,000 in donations, he promised to give a full, spoiler-free section of The Doors of Stone once he reached that amount. During one of Rothfuss’s Twitch live streams for his Worldbuilders charity, fans earned the right to read the chapter.
